On the 1st of April 2012 rules proposed by the Department of Energy and Climate Change (DECC), came in force. All homes wishing to receive the Feed-In Tariff (FITíS) must have an energy performance certificate (EPC) at level D or above to qualify for the higher feed-in tariff, this is applicable to all types of renewable energy not just Solar PV. DECC has estimated that 50% of all UK homes already reach level D however for the remaining homes this will mean they will be faced with even more costs to upgrading their home to reach the level D standard before installing solar PV. For homes that no not reach level D or above they will receive a lower tariff of just 9p per kWh.
